Privacy policy
Breathe Schools is a recruitment program for a federally funded research study on classroom air. It is run by Poppy Health, Inc. ("Poppy", "we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect through the Breathe Schools website at breatheschools.us, how we use it, who handles it on our behalf, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
It covers this website only: the district application, the school nomination form, and your emails to us about them. If a district goes on to take part in the study, separate agreements and notices cover the study itself.
What we collect
What you give us
- District application: your name, work email, phone number if you give one, and your role; your district's name, location and approximate size; the schools you name and their approximate size; your answers about the buildings; why the district is interested; and your choices on the consent checkboxes.
- School nomination: the school's name and location, the district if you know it, your name, email and connection to the school, why you nominated it if you tell us, and the name or role of anyone you suggest we contact.
- Emails you send to hello@breatheschools.us.
We do not ask for, and these forms are not designed to collect, any information about individual students.
What we collect automatically
- How you found us: if you arrive through a tracked link, for example from a partner organization's newsletter, we record the tracking code, the page you landed on, and the website that referred you. This tells us which outreach is working.
- Spam protection: Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a real person is using the form. To do this, Cloudflare processes technical signals from your browser and device, including your IP address. We also store your browser type with each submission.
- Saved progress: the application saves your answers in your own browser as you go, so you can close the page and come back. This copy stays on your device and is not sent to us until you submit. It is deleted from your browser when you submit.
- Fonts: the website loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google when a page loads.
- Visit counts: we use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they view, which websites sent them, and roughly which country they are in. It does not use cookies, does not store anything on your device, and does not identify you or follow you across other websites.
We do not use cookies for analytics or advertising, and we do not use advertising trackers or social media pixels on this website.
How we use it
- To reply to you and talk with you about your application or nomination.
- To assess which districts and schools could take part in the study, and to compare districts when selecting who to visit and enroll.
- To contact a district about a nomination. See the next section.
- To send you program updates and future opportunities, only if you ticked the box asking for them. Each update includes a way to unsubscribe.
- To keep the forms secure and free of spam, and to understand which outreach is reaching districts.
- To keep a record of the consent you gave, including the exact wording and when you gave it.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
People you mention in a nomination
If you nominate a school and suggest someone there we could contact, we may approach that person or their district about the program. Your consent covers you only. We treat the person you named as someone who has not agreed to anything, we do not add them to any mailing list, and we do not tell them who sent us unless you ask us to.
Who handles it for us
We use these service providers to run the website and handle submissions. They process information on our behalf and only for these purposes.

Within the study, we may share what a district tells us with the research partners and the federal funder working on the program, where that is needed to assess and run the study. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
Our service providers may store information in the United States.
How long we keep it
- Applications and nominations: for as long as we are recruiting for the study, and then for up to two years after the final cohort is selected, so we can answer follow-up questions and contact districts about later opportunities. After that we delete them.
- If your district joins the study: its application becomes part of the study's records, and is kept for as long as the study agreement and research record-keeping rules require.
- Program updates: if you asked for them, we keep your name and email for that purpose until you unsubscribe.
- Backup copies are deleted on the same schedule.
You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time.
Children
This website is for school and district staff, parents, and other adults in a school community. It is not directed at children, and you must be 13 or older to send a nomination. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us their information, email hello@breatheschools.us and we will delete it.
Security
Information you send is encrypted in transit. Access to submissions is limited to the people at Poppy working on recruitment for the study. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you send us.
Your choices and rights
- Ask what information we hold about you, and for a copy of it.
- Ask us to correct it, or to delete it.
- Stop program updates at any time, using the unsubscribe link or by emailing us.
- Ask us to stop contacting you about your application or nomination.
Email hello@breatheschools.us. We will reply within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under state privacy law; we will honor any that apply.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update it here and change the effective date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we will tell the people affected.
